BLOG - Conflation of "Brain Log" - noun: a recording of a transient mental state, like flickering northern lights, an electro-static phenomenon, random synaptic neuro-fragments preserved for eternity in a digital-temporal amberguity. Reality is always in flux; a viscous phlegm we must slog through. These are just some notes scrawled on the margins of a soiled napkin-map while I try to get my berings strait...
Is it art yet?
Digital Disruption
A potential customer approaches a coffee shop, and they receive a GPS triggered proximity-relevant text with a coupon. Odds are, they're already looking at their phone - and therefore, by definition, are already distracted. Will they pay attention to the text? A poster on the bus stop outside the coffee shop's front door might be a more effective tactic to get them in the shop. 'Out-of-Home' - like Billboards and Transit Posters - require very short, simple messages since they compete for the attention of a distracted audience in a cluttered, fast-moving environment. Which coincidentally applies to Banner Ads too. "But Banner Ads can have animation and video," you say. True, but Billboards with LED displays can now deliver the same visual as a banner ad. |
Should the cost of a message displayed on an LED Billboard come out of the Marketing Budget for Print or for Digital?

HA HA HA, indeed :
Right, I know, Print is kind of funny isn't it? : – ) Such a quaint, old-fashioned channel. A classic, like Latin, a real OG. Well-respected, sure - but sadly, dog-eared, a dinosaur, numbers down, budgets slashed, a dead language, a door-nail, past its sell-by. Times are changing bro. < shit emoji > < crying emoji > But no worries, right? No.
Because Digital be killing it now. All the cool kids are doing it. Toats! Small screens . . short attention spans . . thumbs twitching tweets . . . To which I loudly proclaim; 'P H O O E Y !' Hand-on-my-heart, I pound upon my stand-up desk for emphasis and proudly declare; 'Print shall never fade away, forlorn and forgotten!' Consumers will continue to crave newspapers and magazines, something to hold, to fold, and hopefully recycle - if they care enough. |
FUTURE SHOCK predictions. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Soon, all consumers that meet criteria will be comfortably chauffeured around in their solar-powered, auto-pilot, suv-couch-drones. It's leisure luxury as technology transports the upper-crust to their appointments between hot yoga, and frozen yogurts, lattes, pilates, and their many-splendored mani-pedis, their nose-to-tail butchering classes, their power lunches with crocheted cocktails hand-crafted by well-seasoned mixologists, and then back again to their country estates - or the vacation home if it's the weekend... Well, that sounds swell, doesn't it folks? You bet! And they'll def appreciate the Virtual Billboards breaking up all that monotonous scenery. But only if they look up from their mobile devices - and only if they're wearing their Enhanced-Reality+ Digital Contact Lenses© by HP©. |
P H O O E Y!'
Yes, but darling, really, why must you shout 'PHOOEY!' all the god-damn time? I dunno Bae, I just got a bad case of inertia or something... Old Doc. Lichtenstein, he said might be Tourettes - gave me a scrip for Benday Dots. Guess I should swing by the pharmacy already and get myself fixed up right. Say now, pass that bottle, wouldja Hon? My intestinal flora needs tending. |
A passion for food - or my trip to the “Back-of-the-House”
Gourmet, Gourmand, Connoisseur, Epicurean, Enthusiast, Foodie… Whatever the handle, I enjoy eating and I like to cook, to try new foods, techniques and recipes. Preparing food for others and sharing a good meal with friends are favorite activities. I cook most of the dinners when we entertain. I like to demonstrate cooking techniques and share the recipes. I’ve catered parties. I like to keep informed about food trends and hot items and read cookbooks and food magazines for enjoyment and watch cooking shows on TV. I like cooking so much I thought I might want to be a chef, but also thought it wise to test the waters before I jumped into a culinary program. |
'P H O O E Y!'
I broke it again. |
I like to cook because I like to eat. I am usually hungry. I have an appetite for Life. I appreciate the dark side of life; Coffee, Stout, Humor.
